If you qualify for federal, state or local income-eligible payment assistance programs, you could receive help paying your bill. You may be eligible to receive assistance to help pay your NIPSCO bill from the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) if your household income is at or below 60% of State Median Income (SMI). EAP is federally funded and implemented through participating local agencies in each county under the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).
Applications for heating assistance are taken from October 1, 2024 through April 14, 2025.
NIPSCO CARE could provide you additional discounts on your energy bill if you use natural gas for heating in your home. Once you're approved for EAP, you’re automatically enrolled in CARE, which reduces your bill from 11 to 26 percent depending on your income. CARE is implemented through participating local agencies in each county under the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).

NIPSCO provides energy assistance funds for natural gas customers who fall between 151-250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Hardship funds are available through many of the same local Community Action Agencies where EAP funds are distributed.

Supply Energy Resources to Veterans (SERV) is an income-eligible assistance program that offers a one-time benefit to our active military and eligible veteran customers in need of financial assistance with gas residential utility charges.

Seniors in Indiana Low-income & Vulnerable Energy Resource (SILVER) is an income-eligible assistance program that offers a one-time benefit to our senior citizen customers 60 years of age or older who need financial assistance with gas residential utility charges.
Eligible renters can get help paying their natural gas bill through Indiana’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (IERA).
