Let’s Dig into Safety with Digger Dog!
NIPSCO and Digger Dog are here to teach families about Natural Gas Safety! It’s important that families know what to do when there is a need to dig a hole and how to recognize and respond to the smell of natural gas!
811 – Always contact 811 at least two (2) full business days before you plan to dig!
Digger Dog always contacts 811 before he digs in the yard. It is important to contact 811 because there are pipelines buried underground, and we don’t know where they are until utility companies like NIPSCO come to mark them.
Knowing where the utility lines are helps prevent accidentally damaging the lines during a digging project. This keeps everyone safe… and it’s the law!
Before picking up a shovel for any digging project big or small, you must contact 811 at least two (2) full business days before the project starts! 811 will notify NIPSCO and other utility companies to locate and mark the underground lines with colored paint or flags.
